Who we are
Hatch Web Studio is a small, independent consultancy run by a senior web developer with a long track record of building and maintaining production web systems. We specialize in Drupal and PHP-based development, custom web applications, and the project management that keeps technical work moving.
Being small is deliberate. You deal directly with the developer doing the work, and the same person sees an engagement through from the first conversation to launch.
How we work
Our approach is shaped by years of seeing what makes web projects succeed and fail:
- Boring technology, deliberately chosen. We prefer proven, well-supported tools over whatever is fashionable this quarter. Your site should still be maintainable in five years.
- Small scope, shipped often. Big-bang launches fail. We break work into pieces that can be delivered, reviewed, and adjusted.
- Honest estimates. If something is going to be expensive or risky, you hear about it before the work starts, not after.
- Maintenance matters. We build things we are willing to support, and we structure code and documentation so that any competent developer could take over.
Our products
Alongside client work, we build and operate our own software. Running our own products keeps us sharp: we deal with the same operational realities our clients do, including uptime, deliverability, user support, and the discipline of maintaining software people rely on.
TrekSafer
TrekSafer is a trip safety notification service. Backcountry travellers register a trip plan with their route and expected return time; if they do not check in when expected, TrekSafer automatically alerts their emergency contacts by SMS and email so a search can start sooner.
Patchbay
Patchbay is an open source dashboard for managing Docker containers, Compose projects, and systemd units from one place. Its presets run ordered stop/start/restart sequences with a single click, which makes it easy to swap between resource-hungry services on homelab and workstation hardware. It is built in Python on FastAPI, with a mobile-friendly UI and a REST API.
Parascribe
Parascribe is an open source, self-hosted transcription server that exposes an OpenAI-compatible audio API. It runs NVIDIA Parakeet speech recognition models locally on your own GPU, handles multi-hour recordings, and produces transcripts with word-level timestamps in JSON, SRT, and VTT formats, with optional speaker diarization. It gives teams private, fixed-cost transcription without sending audio to a third-party service.
Where we are
We are based in Burnaby, BC, Canada, and work with clients across North America. Nearly all of our work is done remotely.
